Mr. Indika Udawatte assumes duties as the new District Secretary of Kandy ….
Mr. Indika Udawatte, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, whose appointment as the Kandy District Secretary was approved by the Cabinet at the Cabinet meeting held on 02.12.2024, assumed duties at the Kandy District Secretariat, 2024-12-05. The appointment took place to fill the vacancy that arose with the retirement of the former District Secretary, Mr. Chandana Tennakoon.
Mr. Indika Udawatte, who joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 2003, initially began his duties as an Assistant Divisional Secretary at the Ampara Divisional Secretariat. He then served as the Assistant Divisional Secretary of Uhana and the Divisional Secretary of Uhana.
Then, he served as the Divisional Secretary of Udapalatha Divisional Secretariat in the Kandy District and also served as a Divisional Secretary in the Yatinuwara and Medadumbara Divisional Secretariats. Before assuming duties in the post of District Secretary of Kandy, he was serving as the Divisional Secretary of the Ampara Divisional Secretariat.
Mr. Indika Udawatte is an engineering graduate from the University of Peradeniya, he also holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Kelaniya. In addition, Mr. Udawatte is an officer who has received many training opportunities in public administration both local and foreign and who has thereby gained extensive experience in Public Service.
An author and a writer, he is an alumnus of Ampara Rajagalathenna Maha Vidyalaya, Ampara D.S. Senanayake National School, and Sanghabodhi Central College, Nittambuwa.
Several Clergy including the Darshanapathi Ven. Mahawela Rathanapala Thero, representing the Sangha Community of Malwatta Maha Vihara Chapter were present at the time of duty assumption to conduct religious activities and the former District Secretary Chandana Thennakoon was also present to extend his congratulations.
Mr. Lalith Atampawala, the Additional District Secretary of Kandy and many other Government officials, including the Divisional Secretaries of the Divisional Secretariats of Kandy District, were present on the occasion.
